What Happens at Your First Appointment with Our Langley Dentist?
After examining your teeth, your Langley dentist will determine the appropriate treatment option to help maintain oral health and protect your teeth from decay. Some treatments may require more than one visit and we will carefully explain how long your treatment is likely to take.
We understand that your first visit to a new dentist can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be.
At Dentist @ 86 Ave., we are committed to making not only your first visit, but all your future visits with us, a relaxing and comfortable experience.
We offer online appointments 24/7 or call us at (604) 371-2525 to make an appointment directly.
We offer evening and weekend hours to accommodate your schedule. We also accept new patients.
You can expect a typical new patient dental exam at the dentist@86 Ave. to look like this:
Review your medical history: We will take the time to get to know you and review your dental and medical history, along with your current concerns. This will help us identify oral and general health issues to watch out for. If you have any goals for your teeth, we can start planning from your first visit.
Update X-rays: We will take X-rays to monitor your oral health that might otherwise go unnoticed. X-ray machines that emit very low radiation are used. However, if you have current x-rays, please let us know.
Dental exam: Your dentist will go through the following:
Radiographs (x-rays)
Intraoral and extraoral images, if needed
Visual examination of teeth/gums
TMJ exam
Palpation of lymph nodes
Dental hygiene: If scheduled, your dentist or dental hygienist will clean your teeth with special tools to remove plaque and tartar (a build-up of tartar), polish your teeth, and give you a fluoride treatment.
Oral cancer screening: The dentist will screen for oral cancer both visually and with a special instrument called a Velscope®.
Preventative measures: We can also discuss recommended preventive treatment for your overall health, such as sealants or fluoride to prevent cavities or orthodontic care.
Post-appointment reminder: Based on your examination and your health, your dentist will let you know when your next visit is due. In most cases, Dentist @86 Ave recommends that patients visit the dentist every six months, unless there are any serious follow-up issues.
